There will be a formal dance recital on May 22, 2011, for those students enrolled in classes no later than January, 2011.

 

CREATIVE MOVEMENT  (Ages 3 - 4)
Preschoolers use song and music to get their bodies moving through space, while working on concepts of space, tempo, levels and movement quality.  Students use a variety of props and play games to encourage movement.  Use of imagination and personal expression are promoted.  Students will learn basic classroom skills such as listening to directions, taking turns, using manners, and playing nicely with others.  A chance to get those extra wiggles out in a fun and safe environment.

PRE-BALLET  (Ages 4 - 6) 
PRE-REQUISITE:  Four-year-olds must have completed Creative Movement class or have permission of instructor.
Students take the skills acquired in Creative Movement and apply them to the basics of classical ballet.  They will learn simple foot and arm positions, as well as steps that are the building blocks of ballet.  Classical music, hoops and scarves are used to foster creative expression.  Children also work on classroom etiquette, focus and movement retention.  Fun and imagination are encouraged!

PRE-TAP/JAZZ  (Ages 5 - 6)
This class introduces young dancers to both tap and jazz dancing.  Class time is split  equally between the two styles.  Students will learn warm-ups for both, and different routines.  Focus is also placed on basic movement vocabulary as well as class etiquette.  Hoops, scarves and age-appropriate popular music are used to encourage creative expression to get everyone dancing.  Pre-Tap/Jazz is a great fit for that high-energy child who can never stop moving!

TAP/JAZZ I  (Ages 6 - 8)
PRE-REQUISITE:  Six-year-olds must have completed  Pre-Tap/Jazz or have permission of instructor.
Students will continue to explore the styles of jazz and tap dancing, expand movement vocabulary and hone accuracy skills.  Rhythm, retention and movement quality will also be focused upon, while fostering individuality and personal style.  The use of age appropriate popular and traditional music will add to the fun!

TAP/JAZZ II  (Ages 9 - 12)

BALLET I  (Ages 6 - 8)
PRE-REQUISITE:  Six-year-olds must have completed Pre-Ballet or have permission of instructor.
Young students take the skills acquired in Pre-Ballet and build on them.  All age levels continue to study at the barre as well as practice center work.  As students’ skill levels increase, they will be introduced to more complicated classical ballet steps and vocabulary.  Rhythmic accuracy, grace, movement retention and movement quality are emphasized.  Participants are expected to know basic foot/arm positions as well as basic ballet movements before joining these classes.

JAZZ/HIP-HOP III  (Ages 13 - 18)
A fun, high-energy class for students who want to work on jazz and hip-hop technique.  Students will learn a basic warm-up and then learn various routines to popular music.  Jumps and turns as well as floor work will challenge students to push their bodies and minds.  Dancers will focus on strengthening their core and increasing their flexibility.  Musicality and personal performance style are encouraged.  Come join the fun!
THURSDAY  5:15 - 6:15 p.m.

CHOREOGRAPHY  (Ages 13 - 18)
A class designed to help students find their own voice in creating movement.  Participants will be given the opportunity to create solo and group work with feedback from instructors and fellow students.  Each student will show his/her own work in an informal showing at the end of each session.  Students may then have work selected for performance at the recital at the end of the year.
THURSDAY  6:15 - 7:15 p.m.

INTRO. TO POINTE  (Ages 13 - adult)
Only available to students who have permission of the instructor.
SATURDAY  1:00 - 1:30 p.m.

ADULT BALLET FITNESS  (High School - Adult)
Join the fun as the art form of classical ballet is used to create an exercise class.  This class is designed for all skill levels.  It’s wonderful for building strength, increasing flexibility and improving balance.  Ballet is also great for memory skills and concentration.  Come join us as we “belly up to the barre”!
SATURDAY  12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

ADULT TAP FITNESS  (High School - Adult)
Is it time to get back to tapping, or to finally give it a try?  This class is a great workout and loads of fun.  Tap dancing is wonderful for mind, body, and spirit!  Students will learn a warm-up as well as sequences of movement.  This class is ideal for folks who want to work on leg strength and toning.
THURSDAY  7:15 - 8:15 p.m.

BALLROOM BASIC’S / BALLROOM 101  (All ages)
Learn the basic elements of Ballroom, the different tempos of music, and the first steps to becoming a confident, comfortable, social dancer!  Such dances as the Waltz, Foxtrot, Merengue, Rumba, Cha-cha, Tango and Swing will be learned!  Partners and Singles welcome.  Get ready to put your dancing shoes on . . . and remember, even Fred and Ginger started with the basics!
Footwear:  Men:  Smooth soled shoes, such as dress shoes
Women:  Any non-rubber soled shoes (heels are ok, but not required)
